Ensuring brand compliance after a re-brand

Melbourne, Australia

The biggest challenge was consistency at scale, with a large volume of employees needing design solutions.

Outfit empowers employees within Monash to create on-brand content, every time.

This intuitive solution has allowed a strong uptake of the platform throughout the University, and no instances of off-brand collateral.

It's really easy for people to be on-brand because of the volume of templates in Outfit they can find what they need and self-create. It gives people confidence to deliver their work on-brand, and without the delays we used to have with a traditional design brief process.

Students entering university these days expect a superior experience at every touch point. Universities must demonstrate the depth and breadth of their offering in dozens of channels and this information is used by dozens of entities within the University. Monash identified they needed to strengthen their brand in the domestic market to amplify their reputation and ensure more first preferences and direct entry from students.

With 10 faculties and hundreds of staff using the brand and creating collateral, the brand had become diluted and fragmented.  The central marketing team was working hard but struggling to keep up with the volume of requests. Faculty teams who couldn’t wait were creating their own collateral in-house.

Following a re-brand, the Monash Brand, Marketing and Communications team sought a solution to allow them to empower staff to become brand ambassadors and champions while maintaining brand control.

Our central team can focus on differentiated design work and our faculties can create their own solutions. Everyone wins.

With both the central and faculty teams using the brand and needing to deliver a large volume of work, the power of Outfit to customise templates based on faculty and users is key. This input and metadata customisation ensures collateral creation is easier and faster.

Using Outfit means faculty teams no longer have to write a brief, log a job, wait 10 days, and go through extensive proofing and revision processes. They can produce the document themselves, get it approved and create the output all in one afternoon.

Following the implementation of Outfit, the central design studio pivoted from high volume, lower tier work to more meaningful, more bespoke design work. The collateral for Open Day, for example, was created through Outfit which meant that more than 300 design jobs which would have been done through the central design team were produced in Outfit with dozens of variations applied and customised.

The wider Monash marketing and communication teams are all empowered to use Outfit and benefited from it, giving them the tools to be brand ambassadors.

Outfit means the central team at Monash is having bigger and more important conversations about what the brand means and what it represents rather than conversations about where the logo should be placed. This has had a powerful impact on Monash employees' pride in, and association with, the Monash brand.
